Former Central New York Radio Personality Scott Carr Joins Utica’s 95.5 “The Heat” As Consulting Partner and Co-Host of Weekly Musicology Program
(UTICA) -- National news network radio anchor, newsroom manager and veteran Mohawk Valley radio personality Scott Carr has joined Utica radio station 95.5 “The Heat” as a consulting partner.
“Scott is just the right person to help guide 95.5 “The Heat” to mainstream status,” said Cassandra Harris-Lockwood, Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Radio. “Being a Utica-Rome native, and having worked in the market for more than 20 years as a popular morning show DJ/host and news reporter/director, Scott knows the Utica-Rome region very well. He brings a wealth of experience after working since 2009 as an Executive Editor, Producer and Reporter with three high profile national news networks. Scott will use that expertise to help us strengthen our unique, locally oriented live programming to spur growth and inspire listenership.”
“Several weeks ago, I came to Utica to attend a reunion of several former WIBX co-workers, and I was really impressed with what I saw and heard on 95.5 The Heat,” Carr said. “The Heat is a real-life David and Goliath story… a little station with big personalities and a lot of heart, while providing eclectic programming for the market, and the type of information sharing that’s sadly been lost amid the ongoing takeover of small town stations by big outside radio companies.”
“The spirit of American radio has been largely eroded by computerized playlists and numerous iterations of Rush Limbaugh. It’s in the public’s interest to help in the fight to get some of that spirit back; to breathe new life into the American radio entrepreneurial spirit. 95.5 The Heat has lots of that spirit. Count me in!” Carr says.
Initially, Scott will join 95.5 Radio’s on-air team “The Heat Squad” as co-host of his own weekly music history program and podcast, “The Producers Breakdown” along with friend and fellow network producer Tom Delach. “Tom and I push the envelope with this show. We explore the history of pop music, and revel in some of the stranger aspects of it. We also have fun with our, sometimes intrusive, digital assistant “Chip.”
Carr worked in the Utica area co-hosting two different iterations of the satirical “Keeler in the Morning Show” on the former “Rock 107.” He also served as the midday host on WKGW “KG-104” through much of the 1980s and later held down the posts of Program Director and News Director at WIBX AM-950.
Over the past two decades, Carr has held positions in management, production and reporting for Washington D.C.’s Federal News Network, the Westwood One Radio News Network, Bloomberg Radio, and NBC News Radio.
“Scott brings just the right kind of industry knowledge, experience and expertise we need here in the Mohawk Valley for success in the 21st century. And on top of that he’s a really smart and a genuinely nice guy,” added She-E-O Harris-Lockwood. “Welcome home Scott.”
